Gaby Hoffmann is an American actress who rose to fame as a child star in the late 1980s and 1990s. Born on January 8, 1982, in New York City, she is the daughter of actress Viva, one of Andy Warhol's "superstars." Hoffmann grew up in the iconic Chelsea Hotel, where her unconventional upbringing greatly influenced her perspective. She began her acting career early, appearing in commercials at the age of four to help support her family. Hoffmann made her film debut in Field of Dreams (1989) and gained recognition in films like Uncle Buck (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and Now and Then (1995). Despite her success, she took a break from acting in the early 2000s to attend Bard College, where she studied literature and writing. During this period, she explored different career paths, including working as a doula and chef. In recent years, Hoffmann returned to acting, starring in critically acclaimed roles on television in shows like Girls and Transparent, which earned her several Emmy nominations. She continues to take on complex and unconventional characters, most recently appearing in HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
